Project Overview & Objectives:

When Richmond Mayorathon approached us in March 2024, they were facing an outdated, non-responsive website that couldn’t effectively support their mission to inform and engage the community ahead of the November election. To make matters worse, the site had become infected with malware.

With limited time and a pressing need to provide residents with clear, accessible information about local candidates, they needed a fast-moving partner to rebuild the site. Their goals were to improve user experience, streamline content management for site administrators, and build a scalable platform that could support future election cycles with ease.

Our Approach:

Understanding the critical role of Richmond Mayorathon in promoting informed civic engagement within the community, we designed a responsive, intuitive website focused on functionality and user experience.

A key feature we developed was the Candidates page, structured as a custom post type archive. This development approach allows the site’s administrators to easily manage and update candidate information for various positions—Mayor, City Council, and School Board—across multiple election cycles.

On the frontend, we integrated filtering options that enable Richmond residents to quickly find candidates based on their district or the position they are running for.

To further enhance the depth of information available, we built custom fields for linking each candidate’s profile to their campaign website, social media profiles, news coverage, and detailed questionnaire responses on important policy topics. These features ensure Richmond Mayorathon’s website is a lasting, adaptable resource for the community.

KEY RESULTS:

Our efforts resulted in a user-friendly platform that has already garnered positive feedback for its simplicity and ease of use. The new site delivers a much-improved experience for both visitors and administrators, ensuring residents can quickly access up-to-date information on local elections. The streamlined admin interface, driven by custom post types, allows Richmond Mayorathon to easily manage and maintain the site.

The site launched in early July 2024, well in advance of the November election. The Richmond Mayorathon website is now equipped to engage and inform the public in a meaningful way.
