Not directly. Google has said repeatedly that likes, shares, and follower counts are not ranking factors, and no credible study has demonstrated otherwise.
The indirect path is real though, and that’s where the confusion comes from. Content distributed on social earns links and citations from people who found it there. Branded search volume rises as more people learn you exist, and branded search is a genuine signal. Your social profiles rank for your own brand name and occupy space on that results page.
Platform pages like YouTube videos and Reddit threads compete directly in search results, sometimes for the queries you want. So social media work can improve search performance without social metrics being ranking signals. Anyone selling you social packages on a promise of ranking improvements is describing a correlation as if it were a mechanism, which is a reasonable thing to ask them about.
