What’s the difference between paid social media and organic?

Organic social is content you publish without media spend, distributed by the platform’s algorithm to some fraction of your followers and whoever it decides to show it to. Paid social is content you pay to place in front of an audience you define by job title, company, industry, seniority, interest, behavior, or a list you upload.

Measurement differs sharply too, since paid gives you impressions, clicks, and conversions tied to a spend figure, which makes cost per lead calculable, while organic attribution is soft and usually directional at best.

Organic content reach compounds slowly and keeps working after you stop, while paid delivers the day you turn it on and dies the day you turn it off. Organic tolerates rougher and more conversational posts, and paid needs a clear offer with a landing page that matches it.
